"The Kitty Story"
Well, I'm glad you
asked. At one point in my travels on this planet I came to be living at this
mackin house on the beach with my friend Marc (no that's not a misspelling,
that's how he spells his name, Marc, not Mark...what a freak). I also shared
the house with his cat. The cat as you may have guessed by now was named Trippy
Kitty. Trippy had begun her life as a whole nother cat. That cat was named
BoBo Kitty.
BoBo lived on a farm during her younger years. Oh she chased mice... and climbed
trees... just like any other cat would. One day BoBo was out playing in the
tall grass near the barn when she came upon a Blue Tailed skink by the name
of Trouble. (A skink is basically a little gecko/lizard dilly-o) Well, cats
being cats, Miss BoBo felt the need to play with that skink. She stalked Trouble
the skink. BoBo got all hunkered down in the grass and when that skink wasn't
looking BoBo pounced on Trouble the skink. She pounced on that skink and swiped
at it with one of her paws. Ol' Trouble the skink was pretty fast though and
it jumped up on the side of the barn trying to get away, and for just one
second it almost did! BoBo Kitty was just a little quicker though and she
spun around and pounced again. This time one of her paws landed on that skinks
long tail and pinned it there against't the barn., That skink had a bit of
a surprise for ol BoBo. You see a skink being a skink, Trouble just slipped
out of its tail. That skink just up and let that tail drop right off and left
it behind, wiggling between BoBo's toes.
Confused by what happened BoBo held on to the tail while Trouble the skink
ran away. I guess it's pretty hard for a cat to resist a wiggling tail like
that, just squirming and twisting between the cat's toes. Like most cats BoBo
couldn't resist such a tempting thing and she ate that wiggling tail. Yup,
she just slurped it right down like the worm at the bottom of a bottle of
Mescal I bet she did, AND just like the way getting to the worm at the bottom
of a bottle of Mescal messes up your head, eating that skink's tail sent BoBo
on a bender!
What a ride it must have been for BoBo, and not a good one either. You see,
apparently there are toxins in a skink's tail that mess with a cat in a
By then BoBo the farm cat had become known far and wide...at least in our
circle of friends...and her strange behavior earned her the name Trippy Kitty.
As years past Trippy Kitty's wild ride slowly came back down to earth, but
not without some lasting effects. She never quite fully regained her balance
and she lost her ability to hear. To make up for the hearing loss Trippy relied
on her other senses. It was almost as if she had developed some crazy ESP-spider
senses tingling- kind of ability to know when you came home. Using her sense
of smell, her ability to feel vibrations, and by watching the shadows Trippy
would know when someone came home and come running from a back room to greet
them with an extra loud MEEEOOWW!. All in all for a special needs kitty Trippy
did pretty well.
One
of Trippy Kitty's favorite things to do was to come and sit on a pile of my
freshly dyed shirts. Sometimes when I did marbling I would hang large pieces
of marbled fabric on the walls to admire them before I cut them up to be sewn
into a backpack or tote. That drove Trippy crazy! She wanted more than anything
to sit on that freshly marbled fabric with its bright colors and freshly dyed
smell. One day when Trippy had yet again found her way onto a pile of freshly
dyed fabric a friend who was there noted that they were "Trippy Kitty Tested
and Approved". That stuck.
So
in honor of the cat that loved to sit all over my dyes I named the company
